Review: Moi-même-Moitié Lace Ribbon OTKs

Hello bats! Today I'll be doing a very quick review of Moi-même-Moitié's Lace Ribbon OTKs, which are an updated re-release of one of their most iconic items: 2010's Holy Cross Lace-Up OTKs. Moitié has released several variations of lace-up ribbon socks over the years, but these ones are by far the most coveted. They're also extremely difficult to find secondhand, so the re-release was a real treat even though only select colours were chosen.

I purchased the white x white and the white x blue colourways for 6270 yen/$76 CAD each, which is a big jump from the pricing on the originals which were priced at 4800 yen/$58 CAD. I already own the original release in black x blue as well as the 2008 Lace-Up Ribbon OTKs in black so I couldn't justify getting those colourways as well...but it sure was tempting.

Moi-même-Moitié Lace Ribbon OTKs

I was feeling a little bit wary after the disappointment that was the St. Peter's Cross OTKs (see my review here) but I'm extremely happy to say that Moitié really seems to have taken the overwhelming amount of negative feedback to heart. Many people complained that the St. Peter's Cross OTKs were too short, too tight, looked cheap, and were overall just "meh" for the price.

Firstly, these socks are actually OTKs. I'm really happy with how comfortable they are! They can be easily pulled all the way up to the thigh without strangling your kneecaps. The material is far more stretchy and comfortable than the material used in the St. Peter's Cross OTKs, and doesn't have that cheap-looking sheen when stretched. The elasticated ribbons are so long that you can criss-cross them 4 times and tie them in a pretty bow without running out of ribbon.

It's also worth noting that the "white" colourways are sliiiightly off-white rather than a stark cool white, which I didn't even notice until I held them up against a pure white background.

St. Peter's Cross OTKs on top, new lace Ribbon OTKs on the bottom. The tulle ruffle is finished much more neatly in the new socks, and there was more lace used overall.

As you can see in the above photo, the lace is different. The netting is softer, and the embroidery is clearer and doesn't have as many visible errors. On the other hand, the embroidery is a bit thinner. I really do miss the old lace they used to use...but despite that, I'm extremely happy with this release! I feel like the brand took everyone's feedback into consideration and took extra care to address the major issues with their previous sock release.

I definitely recommend getting these as it's almost impossible to find the original release at a reasonable price - and why would you want 10 year old socks with faded ribbons when you can have fresh new ones? Plus, this new release will fit taller people much better. As you can see, they come up well above my knees, and they're not even stretched to the max. Not that I'm particularly tall, mind...

Moi dix Mois Dixanadu + Lamentful Miss LP on Vinyl!

I've recently started collecting vinyl records, but I'm trying to limit my purchases to special editions or rare records since they take up so much space. I was lucky enough to find a brand-new copy of Moi dix Mois' Dixanadu + Lamentful Miss LP, so I immediately snapped it up since it can be hard to find in new condition. This LP is a Europe-only release that was limited to 499 copies and includes a 29-page booklet and poster. There's very little information about this release on the internet and many people don't even know it exists, so I wanted to share some photos.

The booklet features lyrics for the songs on Dixanadu and Lamentful Miss as well as lots of photos on glossy paper. 90% of the photos are of Mana, naturally. I'll share a few of my favourite photos and songs.

Last Temptation.

I was really happy to see that the actual record sleeves had artwork, too! The back sides feature the Moi dix Mois logo in blue and in grey, respectively. The only thing that would have made this better is coloured vinyl - maybe royal blue or a black/blue splatter?

Sadly, the vinyl records themselves are plain black. Oh well, can't ask for too much...

Lastly, they included a gigantic Dixanadu poster. It's so huge that I had to put it on the floor to take a photo of it! Sadly, it's a little fragile along the folds since it's been packed tightly in the record sleeve for 12+ years. I'd like to get it framed someday.
